Dubrovnik; the Pearl of the Adriatic.

Dubrovnik; the Pearl of the Adriatic.

Last year several of us were contemplating where to go on holiday to relax in the sun. The obvious destinations came up, such as the Algarve in Portugal, the many Costas of Spain and, of course, Italy. Whilst these places are great (if you can find somewhere off the beaten track, as I dislike tourists) we felt we had seen it all before on previous excursions to continental Europe.

Where we had not been before started to become the topic of discussion, and, after a few days of heated debate, we landed on going to Croatia. Why Croatia? Well, the climate is a Mediterranean one, fulfilling one of the main criteria, and, although Croatia does have its fair share of tourists, I believe these numbers are nothing compared to the swarms that invade Spain and Italy every year, thereby fulfilling another of the main criteria.

So we had found a sunny, and decently quiet destination to relax. We checked out a lot of places in Croatia but one kept coming up over and over and that was Dubrovnik. Nicknamed the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, Dubrovnik has an amazing setting on the coast right in the southernmost tip of Croatia. It does get tourists, but if one heads out before the high season, it shouldn’t be too busy.

The prices were incredibly reasonable as well. Which wasn’t one of our criteria, but a nice bonus. The many hotels and hostels were clean, cool and picturesque. The streets, at least some of them, are lined with marble and the architecture is magnificent. It really does feel like a fantasy setting of some sort with the Castle walls leading you out to crystal clear blue seas and warm sandy beaches.

It ended up being a fantastic holiday in a magical location. Try Dubrovnik for yourself and see what I mean.

Skiing in italy booking for our next group trip have been confirmed everybody, I am stoked completely stoked to be honest! I need part of the overall cost by Saturday, so please everyone don’t spend your entire paychecks on friday night!
